RE: Crawford County Spay
Neuter Assistance Program by SNSI
--------------------------------------------
SNSI is
responsible for this project and we greatly appreciate the
fact they stepped forward to help -
www.spayneuterservices.org/programs.htm
or 317-767-7771. SNSI is sending a press release.
I am simply doing the groundwork.
SNSI representatives will be visiting with us
within the next few months, we plan on taking the scenic tour of
Crawford County and they are already looking forward to visiting
Marengo Cave.
The SNAP is a wonderful opportunity for the
citizens of Crawford County, pet owners and non-pet owners alike. I
urge Crawford Countians to 'roll up their shirtsleeves' and pitch in
to help end the tragedy of dog and cat overpopulation. Even non-pet
owners can assist with this project by letting pet-owning relatives,
friends and neighbors know about the SNSI, SNAP and if necessary by
offering to pay the $20 for those who are experiencing financial
difficulty. It is critical that all male dogs and cats running loose
are neutered. One spay or neuter prevents thousands of unwanted
puppies and kittens from being born. $20 can have a huge impact on
the problem.
Thank you,

Crawford County SNAP Question and
Answer:
Why did SNSI agree to help?
As Program Coordinator for the Harrison County
SNAP, which is a Harrison County Commissioners and County Council
project, I receive many calls for spay neuter assistance from
Crawford County. Our Harrison County program can be accessed by
Harrison County residents only. In an effort to secure spay/neuter
assistance for Crawford County pet owners I searched for and found
an organization willing to help.
I spoke with SNSI representative Verna Boggs and
then submitted a written request for spay neuter assistance. Spay
Neuter Services of Indiana, Indianapolis (SNSI) board members agreed
to expand their service base to Crawford County.
What can Crawford County residents
do to help?
In general, we need Crawford Co. volunteers
who will help keep applications supplied at various locations.
Junior SNAP Volunteers Samantha Mayberry and
Nathan Atherton, both of Harrison County, will help in the
distribution of applications. We would like to designate additional
Junior Volunteers, Crawford County grade school thru high school,
who are willing to participate.
We need more locations in Crawford County where
applications can be picked up. Businesses should let us know if they
are willing to distribute applications. 812-969-2615 or
sit.stay.learn@gmail.com
Do we need more veterinarians to
participate?
Yes. It is important that
more veterinarians sign up with SNSI. Interested veterinarians
should contact SNSI.
When should dogs and cats be spayed
or neutered?
No later than four months.
Female cats and dogs can become pregnant at
five months:
FiveSavesLives.org
All male dogs and cats need to be neutered
no later than four months. Especially males who run loose.
The earliest for male and female is 6-8 weeks.
Limited local early-age service is available.
How do pet owners/guardians obtain
a SNSI SNAP Application?
There are six Crawford County locations where pet
owners can pick up the applications. See fax.
The application can also be downloaded from
the SNSI website. www.spayneuterserivces.org/programs.htm.
or pet owners can call 317-767-7771.
Payment is made by Money Order in the amount of
$20 to SNSI.
Money orders can be obtained at the Post Office
and some participating businesses.
What does it cost?
The application is sent along with $20. Once
approved, the pet owner will make and appointment and then take the
dog or cat to one of the veterinarians on the list. SNSI pays
the balance to the veterinarian for the agreed upon spay/neuter fee.
The pet owner's total cost per animal is expected to be $20 unless
additional veterinary services are requested by the pet owner or
required by the veterinarian.
IMPORTANT:
Pet owners are responsible for discussing any and all services with
the veterinarian chosen. Prior to making the appointment and before
leaving the animal for surgery. Any additional charges will be the
pet owner’s responsibility. Each veterinarian has his/her own
requirements regarding vaccinations and pre-testing. Establish this
in advance.
Who can get assistance?
SNSI is restriciting this program to Crawford
County residents only. Exceptions could be made on a case by case
basis. (Confirm this with SNSI)
Where do pet owners take their
animals for surgery?
A list of veterinarians have agreed to the
surgery price designated by SNSI. See fax for current list.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
In addition, participating veterinarian Barbara Pippin, DVM, Cross
Creek House Call Practice, will be providing surgeries within
Crawford County once a month at the 4-H Fairgrounds. 4-H members
sought out Dr. Pippin who agreed to provide those location
surgeries.
Are there programs for people with
large quantities of animals?
Yes. Please call for information. 812-969-2615 or
502-396-0660 or sit.stay.learn@gmail.com
